MAG submission presents the development of the concept master plan into a preliminary design submission.  The preliminary design presents a greater level of detail on the elements of the Master Plan, and on the Park’s supporting infrastructure.   It should be acknowledged that, at the time of submission, the consultation period with key stakeholders had been initiated, but that these discussions are still to be progressed in the detailed design stage.

The Preliminary Design package is submitted to the Private Engineering office for review and consultation.  The review comments will be addressed and incorporated into next stage of design development; the detailed design stage.

Introduction

The Private Engineering Office (PEO) are to develop the site of the Al Doha Grand Park into central park for the people of Doha.  The project site is located in one of Doha’s most prominent locations; directly behind the Corniche, adjacent to the EmiriDiwan and the Grand Mosque.  The project brief is to develop a park that is befitting of a central park in Qatar and complements its prime location.  The park is to acknowledge and reflect the heritage and natural features of the park site, and offer an array of leisure interests to the park users, making the park an interesting place to visit and enjoy.

The Main Idea
The designers sought a theme for the park that reflects the national identity of Qatar, meets the needs of its People, and re-establishes a connection between man and nature.

It was therefore necessary to achieve a balance between five major concepts that give vitality and ef¬fectiveness to the program of the park.
Nature - Entertainment – Culture – History – the Future.

Architecture in the park must be integrated with nature and does its function, at the same time retain the full splendor of nature. This led us to create buildings that are integrated with nature and allow visi¬tors to interact with the landscape in new ways.

Shapes and forms found in nature inspired the way the buildings and gardens were conceived.

Poised to be the largest park in the region, Al Doha Grand Park is indicative of Qatar’s vision to create a national asset for the people. Located adjacent to the cornice in the heart of downtown Doha and occupying a site area of 206 Ha, the park forms an integral part of fulfilling the nation’s aspiration to transform Doha into a world class city.
Al Khayyat Contracting & Trading invited Maksoud Architectural Group (MAG) to prepare a concept pro¬posal for Doha Grand Park. MAG in collaboration with DP Architects and DP Green started the design of the public park. The preparation of this preliminary concept design took 2 months and was prepared based on site information and requirements provided by the client. The main purpose of this exercise was to establish a vibrant park program and to incorporate all the extensive functional requirements of the park into a image able and cohesive vision for the park.
